SYNW CONGRATULATES DENJA ABDULAHI ON HIS 55TH BIRTHDAY


 


The Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) has congratulated Mallam Denja Abdulahi, former President of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) on the joyous occasion of his 55th birthday.

This commendation was conveyed in a press statement issued by the President of SYNW, Wole Adedoyin, who celebrated Abdulahi’s invaluable contributions to Nigerian literature and culture.

Born on August 27, 1969, in Idah, Kogi State, Denja Abdulahi has spent over three decades enriching the Nigerian literary landscape. A prolific poet, playwright, and cultural technocrat, he has produced an impressive body of work that includes numerous poetry volumes, plays, and essays. His literary journey is adorned with accolades, including an honorable mention for the ANA/CADBURY Poetry Prize in 2001.

In addition to his writing, Abdulahi has been a significant figure in the editorial space, curating and compiling important literary works. His contributions have not only been recognized nationally but have also resonated internationally, affirming his status as a stalwart in the literary community. His media interviews and compiled volumes reflect the depth of his engagement with the literary world and his commitment to fostering literary discourse.

Denja Abdulahi's dedication to the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) is particularly noteworthy. For an unbroken span of 26 years, he has served ANA in various official capacities, including two terms as the National President. His leadership tenure was marked by the execution of impactful programs and projects that enhanced ANA's visibility and influence, solidifying its position as a leading literary organization in Nigeria.

Beyond his literary achievements, Abdulahi has a diverse professional background, including teaching, journalism, and cultural administration. He is a former Director of Performing Arts at the National Council for Arts and Culture, where he made significant strides in promoting Nigerian arts on both national and international stages. His expertise in the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, certified by UNESCO, further underscores his role in preserving and promoting Nigeria's rich cultural heritage.

In 2019, during his 50th birthday celebration, Denja Abdulahi’s contributions were celebrated through the Denja @ 50 Literature and Arts Festival (DAFLAF 2019). The festival was a landmark event where he unveiled a new poetry collection and witnessed the performance of his award-winning play, showcasing the depth of his artistic prowess.

The SYNW President, Wole Adedoyin, highlighted Abdulahi's unwavering commitment to the development of young writers in Nigeria. He noted that Abdulahi's mentorship and support have been instrumental in nurturing the next generation of Nigerian literary talents, making him a cherished figure among young writers.

As Denja Abdulahi celebrates his 55th birthday, SYNW expressesd profound gratitude for his enduring contributions to literature and culture. His life's work continues to inspire writers, scholars, and cultural enthusiasts across Nigeria and beyond.
